This is the 5th video in the Loving the Artist Within series. I acknowledge that it’s been a few weeks since we have posted a video and to be honest I’ve been struggling lately with my own insecurities, and feelings of insignificance due to the current events. I’ve ever debated wether or not to continue this series, because there are a lot of more serious topics to talk about right now. And then I attended my first Creative Mornings and the topic was “Insecurity”. (this wasn’t a coincidence)
One of the guest speakers Jose’ Alverez said “the reason I love Super Heroes so much, is because they are always saving the world.” That really resonated with me. I believe we are ALL SuperHeroes. We must connect to our own superpowers, over come our own insecurities and get our message out there. Creative Super Heroes will save the world. I believe we will create lasting change with our amazing superpowers.
The speakers where empowering, not only for the Black Lives Matter movement they called for all of us to stand together to fight injustice. The speakers called for all creatives to show themselves and make their voices heard. Because creatives will lead the world into change. And I believe that with all of my heart.
Granted it took me two more weeks to gather myself and my grief and get back to work but I allowed myself some grace for that. We should all allow grace right now, for ourselves, our black and brown brothers and sisters and for the world.
Our guest this week is Umayal. She is an amazing painter and a super hero for women’s empowerment. Born and raised in India, she was named after the goddess Parvati lord Shiva’s wife. Umayal is a goddess herself. A Goddess of love and light and her amazing talents will brighten the world.
Loving the Artist Within, is a new weekly series, hosted by me, creative coach, producer and artist Amy Campbell Pratt. During this COVID-19 crisis we have all given the task of of adapting. Phrases like "the new normal" have been floated around, and seeds of fear planted all around us. Suddenly, I woke up tired of simply reacting to these times... I began instead to respond to this new environment. My COVID-19 discovery. Community.
The act of responding has allowed me to connect to people in "my safe space" through zoom. Connections I wouldn't have made otherwise for fear. This sense of connection has re-igniting a spark, which has flamed into a new empowering community. A community, I have otherwise been too scared to re-enter...until now. When I finally looked at my life from a different perspective (a top view), the merry go round I thought I was stuck on, was actually a beautiful, colorful spiral heading upwards. You too are further along on your journey than you realize, you just may need a new perspective. When we heal our selves, we heal the world.
Facing Fears, Setting Goals and Taking Ordinary Steps.
Let's meet Coach Glenn Proctor!
Pulitzer Prize winner, 40-year journalist and retired newspaper executive, Glenn Proctor is a Certified Professional Coach and Founder/Training Director, REDDjobb LLC, a Charlotte-based crisis communications, executive coaching and cultural leadership training company.
In this week's Loving the Artist Within series we are featuring an amazing photographer and artist, as well as the owner of Blackbox Studios. Shane Baskin, she talks about what to do when faced with burn out, how to find joy and choose happiness!
Right now things look bit different, paths are being altered and we don't know what to expect in the future. Our guest this week Jim Dukes had his path altered quite traumatically in Iraq where he diffused bombs as a civil engineer with the UN. He was caught in one of the explosions and his life was forever changed. Listen to how Jim found his artist within and is not helping others do the same.
My story is about silence, stigma, and stubbornness.
It’s also about becoming my authentic self for probably the first time in my life.
It’s about going from the 2/3rds who never seek treatment for mental illness due to fear and stigma. To raising my hand, and my voice to join the 1 and 5 who suffer from a mental illness.
Looking back this constant Fear had shoved my authentic self so far down deep that I became lost hide my depression and anxiety from view for fear of the labels and stigma.
I no longer fear the labels I embody them.
I no longer fear the depression I embrace it.
I no longer fear the anxiety I acknowledge it for what it’s trying to teach me about my body and boundaries.
I no longer fear being “found out” … because…
Hi Ya'll...This… IS … ME!
I am a VICTOR... no longer a victim of my life.
Of course I am still terrified. But it’s a different kind of fear.
It’s a motivating, inspiring, exhilarating, you can do anything kind of fear.
This is me fighting. This is my authentic self.
These labels are my super powers now. Not my cross to bear.
I encourage you to fight with me NOW.
Don’t wait decades as I did.
I do this now because courage is contagious.
I do this now because of the strength I’ve gained by being surrounded by the amazing storytellers that have gone before me for the past 8 years. I have heard/ filmed their amazing stories for years and watched them grow in their authentic selves.
I do this now, In most part because of my involvement with the MHA.
Perhaps by telling my story that stat goes to 1 and 4, or 1 and 3 and when you tell your story that stat will continue to drop.
Until we all find the courage inside of us to realize we are not broken, none of us are, that we are all wonderfully and beautifully made…
Only then will there be no more use for silence. No more labels, No more judgements. No more stigma. We are all the same. We are all superheros.
The first place you really start to break stigma is in yourself. The world needs to hear your story. No matter how insignificant you think it maybe.
I may not be where I want to be, but at least I am not where I was.
I am actually a survivor. A survivor of mental & ancestral trauma, A survivor of domestic violence, a survivor of depression, a survivor of low self esteem, a survivor.
I am a Courageous super hero – with some pretty amazing super powers called anxiety, and depression.
COURAGE IS CONTAGIOUS!
Today and everyday I wake up and CHOSE to be a VICTOR... some days I succeed other days I do not but I always remember to shift my mindset and regroup.
YOU CAN TOO!!!!
If you need help reach out!
You are NOT Broken! You are beautifully and wonderfully made!
You can do it. Healing is possible. There is a super hero inside of you!
Decide that you want the breakthrough
more than you are afraid of the breakdown.
Finally, all the counseling throughout the years and self help books started to make sense to me...
'Anxiety is worrying about the future. Depression is being stuck in the past.'
Responding is living in the present.
I created Facilitate the Healing in order to pass on this awareness. I became a life coach and reiki healer despite my past AND because of it. I discovered my purpose through the pain and responded by becoming a coach and healer. I want to live my purpose everyday by serving others.
"The ultimate aim of the quest must be neither release nor ecstasy for oneself, but the wisdom and the power to serve others." -A Joseph Campbell Companion
Facilitate the Healing is about moving you from REACTING to RESPONDING.
I do this by re-energizing your still small voice, through energy healing and coaching.
Moving you from your head back into your feet, grounding and
re-connecting you to your purpose, your inner child, your still small voice.
It's not about the dogma, the rules, stigma, judgement, and the pre-conceived notions of what healing should look and feel like.
Most importantly Facilitate the Healing is about celebrating the little successes along the way.
It's not about the how and why, it's about the if and when.
It's about the detemination that you have to live the life you were designed and born to live.
It's about facilitating your own healing, personal growth, and fulfillment whatever that looks like to you.
You were meant to be a VICTOR not a victim.
Stop living stuck.
You are wonderfully and perfectly made. You are capable of great things. You are enough.
Change is uncomfortable, breakdowns are scary, (Trust Me) but with every breakdown comes a breakthrough.
I will quote Joseph Campbell one more time here, “Where you stumble and fall, there you will find gold.”
Having a life coach changed my life and it can change yours, it's is like having a light house always guiding you back to shore when you feel lost on the sea of self discovery.
If change is what you are looking for know that Change is possible!
You have to decide that you want it more than you are afraid of it.
Healing is possible! You can change your stars...
